Americans

Veins flowing thick with lust and greed
Holding fast to a morality
That says "get what you can, when you can"
"Don't ever get less than the next man."

Incapable of contentment, "no satisfaction"
Destined to wander the earth in abandon
Meting out the days of their lives
Counting their money and hiding their sighs.

  1. i didn't see your title when i first came to this poem.

i was reminded of a conversation i had recently
with erin on her return from the states and how us north americans are be such savages with greed and self absorbed oblivion that well extends the 49th. parallel northward. we canadians pride ourselves in not being american
but in fact we are north american with a hunger
for things and wealth and insurance policies
with a clause of ever lasting life.

a good post i might add.

  2. Thank you Robert; yes I agree with you very much. Materialism as a philosophy has spread across the world like a plague. Being an American myself I almost feel a sense of guilt by association, for I feel that my country has done much to promote the rampant spread of such a materialistic philosophy worldwide.
